Motown Artists Homes

Detroit, Michigan

Discussed in the STUDIOS and MUSEUMS sections of SoundWaves Travel, the Motown recording studio, and the Motown record label are cemented in the annals of music history. But the true history of Motown really lies in the surrounding neighborhoods of Hitsville USA. Some of the most famous artists in history that started off at Motown lived only a few blocks away from the historic studio, and are still standing today. Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson,  several original members of The Temptations including Eddie Kendricks, and David Ruffin , Martha Reeves, Gladys Knight, and more all grew up near each other, collaborated together and helped develop what we all know as that Motown Sound. No visit to the hard working city of Detroit is complete without visiting one of the most musical neighborhoods on the planet.
